The Puppet Master

Z-Trip

Interactive Installation, Effection, 2005

Working on the Puppet Master was one of the most fun and rewarding experiences of my career. This politicaly-motivated installation featured sculpture, performance, and interactive video.

The user controlled the system on top of a custom-made presidential podium. Video content ranged from family fun to the ubsurd. The controlling station was inspired by the mythical button one would push to initiate a world war. All of this took place directly infront of a massive 14' screen to allow you to watch the consequences of your actions.

The true art in this for me was the experience. The expressions in people's eyes. The ways they moved in and around the piece. The ranges of intimacy and comfort levels... In many ways it was very personal to us, but we were very pleased to see the greater meaning reach those who participated.

This piece took 6 months to create for a one night event. Naturally, after the opening we burned the piece to the ground. It went down in a hail of glory.
